Abstract

Obamas verfolgte Strategie zur Öffnung des chinesischen Marktes war die Umzingelung Chinas mittels der Transpazifische Partnerschaft (TPP). Da diese innenpolitisch nicht durchsetzbar war, versucht es nun Trump mit direkter Konfrontation: hohe Strafzölle für Importe aus China und Blockierung von chinesischen Übernahmen US-Technologiekonzerne. Das harte Vorgehen gegenüber den Handelspartnern soll sicherstellen, dass Trumps Basis die neu ausgehandelten Verträge akzeptiert wird, auch wenn diese sich inhaltlich wenig vom TPP-Vertrag unterscheiden: stärkerer Schutz des geistigen Eigentums, ungehinderter Daten- und Finanzfluss und Einschränkung der Subventionen für Staatskonzerne.
